Are solar panels subject to hail damage and extreme cold conditions?
No, the solar panels we carry are made up of material that is 100% resistant to hail. Those panels are tested in extreme stress and load conditions and ensured they can cope with extreme weather conditions of Canada.
Can solar heat my home?
Generally homes in Alberta are heated with natural gas but if you use an electric heater or electric base board heater, solar will definitely heat your home. The same goes with your hot water. Most hot water tanks use natural gas but once again if your hot water tank is electric, solar will take care of your hot water as well.
What happens to solar panels when it’s cloudy or raining?
Photovoltaic (PV) panels can use direct or indirect sunlight to generate power, though they are most effective in direct sunlight. Solar panels will still work, though at lower performance level, even when the light is reflected or partially blocked by clouds. Rain actually helps to keep your panels operating efficiently by washing away any dust or dirt.
How long will it take for my solar system to pay for itself?
Generally we like to say about 12-15 years depending on the system. Some firms will tell you 8/10 but we feel that 12 is a more realistic number. As energy prices rise the time it will take for your system to pay for itself will drastically shorten.
Is my solar system guaranteed?
Yes, your solar system through Solar Waves Energy is guaranteed. All of our systems come with a 10 year manufactures warranty with extended warranty options of 15-20 years. All of our PV modules (solar panels) come with a production guarantee of 25 years.
